LOL... I did that on my XT. I rode for about 50 miles of highway with the choke on. Only when I slowed down for traffic that the bike cut out with me thinking "OOH FOOK"... until I checked the choke lol

i was gonna fit a proper locking choke but if both ted and xtgirl can forget then i'm def not gonna bother cos i'd always be leaving the choke on, thankfully the xt and my gsxr both don't need much choke

Well... I've done that only once in my life so I think the chances are low. Even if you do, the worst that will happen is the bike will cut out when you close the throttle. It will start straight back up again after a few turns of the engine.
Go ahead and fix your lock.

89 XT w/ 13k miles. 45 mpg of not-so-easy-on-the-throttle riding. As much as 60 mpg when on nice long trip with hardly any stop & go.

'92 XT600 with almost 10,000 miles. I consistently get ~55mpg around town and it drops down to about 50 when riding the highway at speeds of 65mph or more.
Stock carburetor settings.

Last weeks 1600 km adventure: My 1990e went as high as 75 mpg(imp. g.) riding 110 kph.
Never less than 70 mpg on the hwy.
Low 60's when off roading.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
