I’m a civil engineer student of 22 years old, finishing my second year of master in June. Keen of adventure and travels, for a long time I dream of the one I will realize at the end of my studies.
One of my many motivations is the photography. Practicing since many years, it became one of my passions, and the travels are an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
During my exchange program of one year in Chile, I already had the chance to be able to travel by motorcycle this way, and it appeared obvious to me that this is the mode of transport the most convenient, from the freedom it brings as well as the plot and the curiosity it kindles when passing in local villages. It allows establishing contacts really easily, and from there, living authentic experiences.
Planned trip
To be able to stay into enjoyable seasons, the planned itinerary would be to fly to Ushuaia, extreme south of Argentina, and to reach Brussels, having crossed all South America, Central America and North America until Alaska ; and after crossing the Bering strait, reaching Europe by Siberia, Mongolia and the rest of Russia. The whole journey should last from 10 to 12 months, beginning in October/November 2013.
Months procrastinating, weeks debating, days decision making, hours planning and in one whole minute we kissed farewell and left the UK.
Our big fat bike trip begins.
So far the plans include France – Spain – Portugal and then on to Morocco. After that the journey will continue east, back to Spain – France – Italy – Greece – Turkey and there we shall make a decision on which way to go next…

Marco Polo's legendary journey overland from Xanadu in China to his home in Italy has fired the imaginations of travellers for 700 years. Even today, traversing the 20,000km Silk Road between Europe and the Far East is a perilous undertaking. But it sounded like just the challenge for Wellington economist Gareth Morgan and his intrepid wife Jo.
With five friends, they set off to travel the ancient route by a very modern mode of transport — motorcycle. Starting from the historic port of Venice, the Silk Riders crossed some of the most remote, inhospitable and politically unstable terrain in Eurasia, from the Balkan states, Turkey and Iran through various 'stans to the isolated western reaches of China, and along the Great Wall to Bejing
