Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Shipment: From Cairns, Australia to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - September, 2003

Below is the description for the border crossing Oz/PNG. I have made it a full story and you are welcome to cut down any text!

Yes, it's possible, Papua New Guinea is a lovely country, despite all the stories spread about "rascals" and anything else. We spent a month
travelling arround and had a absolutly fantastic time within an amazing culture (700 langages!), very hospitable, happy and polite people, the most
interesting expats. We did not have any problems at all (except the odd hand in your pocket...).And real road challenges I can asure you!

We flew the bike from Cairns to Port Moresby after cheching the shipping and flying prices. No shipping by boat from Cairns is possible and we decided to spend the extra money flying wich saved time as well.

Fyling is pretty straight forward:

- Make an appointment with customes to clear your Carnett / Temp import.

- Go to Australian airExpress and reserve your space on the flight (no storage charges apply).

- Deliver bike a day in advance at Cairns airport and fill in al the forms, hand over the bike (uncrated) and they will strap it in a container and off you go.

One snag though, you need to fill in a "dangerous good declaration", the people are not allowed to help you in anyway, not even tell you what's wrong with it, they just return it with a smile and walk off! The documents needs to be filled in exactly including all dots and lowercase and capitals on the right place (mine got flatly refused because the kg should have been KG and as they are not allowed to tell you whats wrong with it you keep on wondering where you go wrong). You have to PAY Aus$ 60.00 for this "service"
and the great thing is; they did not even check if I drained the tank ot battery, as long as the paperwork was right, crazy burocratie in OZ, hahahah! If you need any help just give me a shout.

In Port Moresby you go to Cargo and pickup the paperwork, then across the road to DHL where a very nice gentleman does all the paperwork for you, he
declares and even stands deposit for you, drives you to the taxation office, and all for FREE! Back to cargo where you hand over the paperwork, collect
the bike and off you go, one hour and your gone, what a difference with Oz!

Prices are:

- Weight of the bike Aus$ 1.25 per kilo
- Various documents Aus$ 136.50
- Dangerous Goods Declaration Aus 60.00

Total of Aus$ 423.25

Based on a Royal Enfield 180kg (they did not check the weight of the bike and we strapped some extra lugage on it, hint hint).

Hope this helps anybody going to this lovely country!

Very bad service all together. You have to arrange a customs inspection of your bike a couple of days in advance. Despite that our bikes arrived 1 week too late in Auckland.

Anthony Golding

Leaving Oz from Melbourne I contacted a company called Oss (address, Noble park) and they can be found in the Yellow pages, contact there is Anthony Golding. Any of the Bike shops on Elizabeth St would supply a crate for free, I got mine from Honda Oz but they are a bit out of the way if you don't have transport.

For 2 cubic m it cost $450 Oz.and I shipped to Christchurch. I was able to do all the crating etc myself (all the normal, drain petrol and disconnect the battery) but for a cost they will do it for you.

The Nz side was also fine, contact MAF and Customs at the airport before the bike arrives and arrange inspection times, there is a set fee but I can't remember what it was. On the day of inspection you can be away on the bike. My carnet expired the day the boat left M/bourne so I entered the country without one. All that was required was a letter from a bike shop saying what the bike was worth, and as they don't import Africa twins to Nz, I could get a reduced value. Customs refund the deposit plus interest when they have proof the bike has been exported, copy of the bill of lading is sufficient.

Shipment: From Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand - February, 2001

Qantas

Qantas
Sydney
Australia

We picked up the bikes today in Auckland from Qantas -- 1.5 hours from walking into Customs to riding away -- best time so far!

We did the Export and Import without agents. In Sydney, we rode the bikes to Qantas, disconnected the batteries, did the paperwork (D/G paperwork was already done), unloaded our clothes, and walked to the departure gate to catch our plane. The bike arrived today (next day).

Pricing for 2 bikes (they let us ship uncrated, and charged actual weight = much cheaper):

F650 = 242kg; R100PD = 294.5kg. Total was 336.50 kg
A$2.40/kg (500+kg)
A$0.15/kg fuel surcharge
A$25 = Airway bill
A$42 = Dangerous Goods Check
(A$132) for Dangerous Goods Documents -- we did our own = FREE A$0 = Customs -- shipping agent will try to charge A$100, but there is actually no charge
NZ$33.50 = MAF check -- quarantine check.

Total = US$834.00

Shipping by sea would have been about US$400, + crating, + transport, + higher import charges in NZ, + 2 weeks. Flying was worth the investment.

Insurance is not mandatory in NZ, but we wanted it anyway. We picked up our third-party insurance for NZ$100 (both bikes) for up to 3 months: kei...@jbinsurance.com / or free call 0800 65 62 64. The insurance office is about 20km south of Auckland, just off the main hwy.

US$ 834 for two bikes uncrated
