Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Shipping from Nz was from Auckland to Valparaiso, Chile. I used a company called Seatrans which is on Customs st. The crate this time was 2.5 cubic (BMW one size fits all). Honda didn't have a crate but would be happy to supply one, Harley charge $65.

Again very straight forward and the bike had to be in the warehouse 4 days before the boat sails. There was no customs inspection as the bike entered the country without a carnet.

The only problem in Chile was getting to the warehouse as it was in the port security area, (there was 3 of us and they only wanted to allow in the owner of the bike, I think this was simply one mans rule at the gate). The only port charge was $6 US and the customs is within walking distance from the warehouse. A carnet is not needed for Chile.

Salamis lines for schedule and prices

From Egypt is only one cargo-ferry "Nissos Kypros" -Salamis lines: www.ferries.gr/salamis.
Each Monday /check it!!/ at 7-7.30pm from Port Said next Cyprus-Rhodos-Pireus after 3 night.

Very important! The price is the same from Port Said like from Haifa to Pireus.

There is ONLY one ferry /cargo and passangers/ from Port Said to Pireus. From Aleksandria is no ferry to Greece. Many people talking to us about many ferries to Greece - it was a lot of rubbish!

And don't believe anybody who promises to take you to cargo ship for a little money!

(Ed. comment-Susan - [in 2002] - Looks like this route is from 26/04/2001 until 27/12/2001. Earlier in the year this ferry only ran from Haifa, not Port Said). May run other times or not. Contact Muhamed or website for details.

US$300 for bike and 2 persons one way.

I shipped my Africa Twin last may from Darwin to Anchorage by air. The bike went by air to Los Angeles, then by truck up to Seattle and then by a freight plane to Anchorage.

Here are the facts:
Gross weight: 305kg;
dimensions: 227*85*130 = 419kg chargable weight;
costs: 5.65A$/kg = 2367A$ plus dangerous goods fee etc = total cost of 2522A$.

No crate needed. Compared to the airfare of 1890A$, the shipping was not that expensive.....

The Insurance broker InsuranceMart at 700W 6th Ave no208 in Anchorage can provide you insurance for about 580 U$ / Year. If you contact PROGRESSIVE (1-800-888-7764) you will save around 100U$. G'day mate, Markus

Maniam Sinaapan (Mr Maniam)

Thought we should update the info held on Multimodal Freight. Mr Murali (mentioned in shipping info from others) has now left the company and the telephone number has changed. The prices for Sydney are still the same, but there are different shipping rates for Perth and Darwin. Shipping to Perth or Sydney from KL is much, much cheaper than to Darwin.

The shipping charges were: 40 USD/cbm to Perth 30 USD/cbm to Sydney 135 USD/cbm to Darwin Despite this, we shipped to Darwin. Our 2 boxes were 2cbm each (we removed the front wheels, handlebars, screens and front mudguards on our XT600s).

Shipping 170 USD/bike
Crating 250 RM/bike
Fumigation 100 RM/bike
Trucking 40 RM/bike
Customs 50 RM/bike
Bill of Lading 50 RM/bike
SMK 30 RM/bike LCL 40 RM/cbm = 80 RM/bike

Exchange rate was 3.8 RM = 1US$ The bikes will apparently take 20 days to get to Darwin (we'll let you know if they don't arrive!).

We had to take them along for crating about 5 days before the departure date. Our flights were 1226 RM each with Malaysian Airlines.

US$430
