Expedition with Sole Vehicle v More Than One Vehicle

I am trying to weigh up the advantages of having more than one vehicle on an expedition, say through North Asia to Europe, as opposed to a sole vehicle travelling alone. Background is, my intention is to travel in a Landcruiser ute with my wife. Most of the trip blogs I read only talk about expeditions of a sole vehicle (with the exception of escorted and tag-along trips). This leads me to think the disadvantages of more than one vehicle outweigh the advantages of having the freedom of a sole vehicle. Can any one direct me to a success story where there was more than one vehicle or are these stories just not there. Is it a function of the type of person wanting to explore remote places and this type of person likes to do it in only one vehicle?Chris

There's a few -

Hi Chris

the obvious pro's and con's as you state - see the following list:

there must be loads more

My wife and I travelled with others, particularly some motorbikes in East Africa - firm friendships were formed or people get on your nerves.

Its all about how sure of yourself you are. IE getting unstuck by your self, safety, sharing experiences with lots or few people.

We ended up doing about half the trip together and half apart.

You do still get on each other's nerves sometimes so it helps if you're very good friends beforehand!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
