Landcruiser hire in UK for trip to Sierra Leone
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and am organising a trip for 4 or more vehicles to Sierra Leone as a charity expedition. Trouble is I'm a little short of 4 Landcruisers.
My options are to try and get a supporter to under right a temporary loan to but the 4 vehicles, prep them and then sell them on when we've finished with them. Or we can try and hire them here in the UK. The difficulty with hiring them is getting them back to the UK from Sierra Leone. I suppose we can freight them back?
So, my question, does anyone know if I can hire 4 Landcruisers that are sufficienty prepped for a 3 week trip to SL??
My expedition is to drive to our twin town of Freetown, SL in 3 weeks with a team of novices to raise money and support for the Stop The Traffik campaign in March of 2007. It's called The Freedom Trail.
Thanks in advance.

I would contact:
1- 4x4 shops
2- Off Road training centers
3- 4x4 clubs
4- Dealers
5- Wholesale distributors for Warn and Superwinch
Also, there are several off road sites based in the UK.

You might be able to perseude 4 owner/drivers to accompany you by meeting their expenses? Just a thought, might be impractical.

Do a Google for 4x4 and off road clubs.
Buy a few of the nice off road magazines published in the UK.
4x4 shops will be listed in the magazines, as they advertise.
Off road driver training centers will also be listed.
Call the magazine editors and get their suggestions. They will know the industry/market which they cover.
4x4 shops can give you the Warn, Superwinch, etc distributors.
Aftermarket companies can be a source of funds, if they can receive exposure. Another incentive for them to play would be if you invited one or more of the magazine photojournalists along on your trip.
Also, one or more people in your group may wish to make a film of the adventure which could be of value.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
