looking for an overland "box"
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a "box" to fit in an overland truck - half open preferred - if anyone knows about one please drop me an e-mail - stand not important as longer it can be fitted on a Mercedes single axle-
something like this ( http://www.xor.org.uk/travel/egypt/graphics/eg413.jpg) or all open can also do -
cheers

eBay
I found ours on eBay. Cost Eur180 (instead of perhaps Eur4-5K new)!
It can take time to come up, but make a few "saved searches" and then wait.
Your alternative (another cheap option), is to take your truck on a trip to Morocco/Tunisia - and have exactly what you want fabricated there...
Sam.

Now that you've got yours you won't mind giving us a few tips:
What keywords turned yours up?

Ah
I was looking in Belgium, so my keywords were in Dutch and French.
Manufacturers are a good one, ie the guys who make the aftermarket units for MB, Ford etc.
Sam.

I'll take them anyway; I live in the French Alps. It would be a pain to go and fetch one in the UK with the door on the wrong side for the roadworthiness registration process.

Thanks for those tips Sam, I did look on e-bay and mobile.de for months without luck - I bought on auction though a militar fully winterised box for 400 £ and that's perfect for 2 people, but what I'm actually looking for is a half opened overland framed body that can take around 10/15 people - in the style of the old Encounter trucks from the 70's - I know there are many around - question is WHERE...???

Try....
Hi Mario,
try a few of the UK based overland companies - Dragoman, Encounter, Exodus, Oasis, Overlanding Africa, AF Tours, African Overland Truck Adventures, Bukima, Nomad, Acacia, - to name just a few. Some of these commpanies have full workshops where they build the trucks, some may have some parts/spares available.

you could also try witham specialist vehicles. they are the main disposal agents for vehicles from the ministry of defence and always have a selection of box bodies which are designed to be fastened to a flatbed, and are usually insulated.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
