RUPP Petition - UK

Anyone who uses 'Green Lanes' in The UK might be interested in this petition to restore the use of RUPP's - which we lost last year. (Bikes or 4x4)

even if you don't agree with riding/driving green lanes, there is a matter of principal here. I don't agree with foxhunting, but I didn't agree with the ban either.
fox hunting, green lanes, the general use of 4x4s. most if not all the arguments against these minority activities simply don't stack up but they are pushed by pressure groups with an axe to grind and a media who can't be bothered to establish the truth of the argument.

next it could be your hobby that suffers,

how about banning all vehicles from non designated routes in Africa?
restricting motorbikes to 70mph (trucks, for example are already limited to 56, less than the national speed limit for them!!)
Effectively banning 4x4s through the use of draconian legislation.

your rights and your hobbies are at risk, so stand up and be counted!!!

ahhhhhhhhh!! that feels better!!

Moggy couldn't agree more

Unfortunately the ramblers groups/assocs want the Rupp's to themselves and even though in some areas the repair work is undertaken by 4x4 groups etc, the ramblers only claim that the damage was caused by 4x4's in the first place.

The main cause of the problem is:

A. The selfish ramblers
B. 4x4 drivers who show no respect to the other users, drive dangerously fast, damage the surface and often travel in excessively large groups - inconsiderate attitudes to all.
C. Motorcyclists who tear around at high speedds, spinning their rear wheels and tearing up the surface.
B. the aggressive attitude to other users who challenge their behaviour

I believe that not enough of these people are reported to the authorities - even if the authorities do nothing about it you can prove that you tried to protect the surroundings/enviroment/surface

Well Moggy ,if you are having a go at me , ---fine--- but I'd like to say for the record that I signed this petition as British citizen who intends to spend time back in the UK and I may retire there and I DO have some idea of the situation regarding RUPP s and green laning .
I've farmed in the UK ,hunted foxes in my youth , driven Landies and tractors and ridden bikes and horses over RUPP's and been involved with motor sport in the countryside [ I started an Off Road club which staged trials , comp safaris and green lane runs .]
So I have a foot in both camps as it were.
99.9 % of the population do not have the foggiest idea what happens in the countryside and care even less .
Politicians will do anythiing for votes .
The British media is clueless and thrives on sensation .
The individuals who cause problems ,be they riders or drivers , have one thing in common - A LACK OF RESPECT - not only for the countryside but also for the people who live and work on the land that they are crossing .I know from experience that one moron with a V8 Landy can cause a lot of damage and distress for the landowner and prevent other people from enjoying that particular RUPP .
Driving in the countryside is not a right it is a privelige .
If more people had valued it as such ,then there would not have been a ban .

Hello dodger, err, no I wasn't, where did that idea come from!!!?
I was having a go at the hysterical press and ill informed pressure groups who come up with unsustainable and inaccurate arguments.
Actually I agree with your sentiments entirely, not quite sure how I have managed to upset you but sorry if I have

Now over 6,000 names on this petition...deadline to sign is 6th of March......

Even if you use lanes infrequently ....act now...this is one of the first nails in the coffin of recreational Green Lane driving in the UK - IMO

Before you know it the anti's will push to ban the Dakar and Overland travel in the Sahara...

Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
