to Australia by Fiat Panda 4x4

Hi, any views on using a Panda Twinair to do this trip? I got inspired by the guys who did the London to Capetown record drive.
grateful for any views about how it will hold up

Why Not ?

its been done in London taxis, Citroen 2CV's and lots of other vehicles, a lot of them less suitable, my only concern would be if using the diesel that the Euro spec engine will not run on the crap diesel found elsewhere, id be tempted to go for the petrol engine with the 6 speed box.

Id also have a good chat with a few mechanics that service them in dealerships and scour forums to find out what breaks and build a sensible spares set to take en route.

Good Luck!

You can do that with any car, bike, by foot. The internet is full of examples.

I hope you don`t try to do any "record drive" like these guys who inspire you. You will miss a lot of experiences, when you just go through on the shortest way.

If you have the time, enjoy these countrys you will cross

Check out the early days of the Mongol Rally they used real snotters of cars and most, well almost nearly most, made it to UB from London.

Panda 4x4 would be quite entertaining although you might have to change the shocks and springs if you're planning on loading it up. I'd personally prefer the diesel engine over the TwinAir but there are pros and cons for either.

Make sure you record your journey!

we ran with some guys in an old panda, loads of trouble, but it was shagged before they started!! main problem was cooling, solved by fitting a fan infront of the rad, reversed, and on a manual switch to blow air onto the fan.

I hope to could answer soon, if the benefit of no schedule is that high as travel experience

I will soon start in South America with no schedule. Maybe Panamerica, maybe just south amerika, mabe more. No plan, no route, no finish date.

I`m curious about that experience, and will report for shure, how I have experienced both, travelling with schedule and without any timeline.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
