Hi - We are also looking for routes though Africa. We have been advsied that Sudan is closed - fullstop. Too dangerous even for the most hardcore traveller. The CAR has been suggested as a replacement, but that has recently seen fighting, and will be a v dangerous place. The safest route it appears is to drive down the west coast, through Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, PRCongo, DRCongo, Angola, Namibia & RSA. It looks like we are going to drive up the east coast from CT to Kenya, the dogleg down to Namibia and then turn north, returning to Europe via the West Coast of Africa.
Good Luck.

flying from Chad to Ethopia is possible with a bike, but costs a fortune. It is however one way to do it.

Chad looks like its getting worse at the moment. There was a report a couple of days ago that the head of the Chad Army, a General, was shot dead in a clash with Sudanese backed militia. Supposedly the Libyan brokered peace agreement in Feb isn't working to well with Chad apparently supporting Sudanese opposition militias and Sudan supporting Chad opposition Militias, all around the Eastern Chad / Darfur region.
CAR hasn't looked that stable for a while and there are reports from last year of travellers who turned back from CAR because it seemed to risky and went down the west coast.
