So Africa Beyond Aid is NOT a charity, we are an overland expedition team of passionate individuals producing a self-funded TV and Web documentary on the emergence of an inspiring generation of Africans working towards economic freedom.
The production requires us driving overland from Geneva, Switzerland to Cape Town, South Africa to cover case studies at grass roots level in some of the most remote regions of Africa.
We follow and discover local communities and their entrepreneurial superstars who, with the use of innovative entrepreneurial mechanisms to finance development aim to assuage poverty. We live with these communities and experience the rebirth of their continent. Africa is in an exciting place with a different sense and spirit of possibility, optimism, determination & self reliance compared to as little as 8 or 10 years ago – we aim to capture this spirit.
We investigates and reports on inspiring rural African entrepreneurial development as an alternative to the western aid model. We aim to uncover the benefits and drawbacks of an alternative blueprint for sustained growth based on the needs of the people, cutting off the Wabenzi’s (men of Mercedes Benz in Swahili) 70-year access to a bottomless pot of tainted aid-gold.
We ask if the aid model devised by the West has dumped Africa into a vicious cycle of perpetual infancy and aid dependence resulting in civil unrest, human rights abuse, corruption and economic demise.
Note, we are talking bi- and multilateral aid here, not emergency and humanitarian aid!
Through this campaign we aim to encourage our viewers to inevitably develop a more educated, unfiltered and unbiased understanding of those with whom we share the world, a world with deeper understanding of one another encourages a world of greater fairness and equality.
We aim to:
Create awareness for an alternative model resulting in sustainable development and economic freedom in Africa.
Present Africa as the opportunity that it is, NOT a dependent, helpless people as we so often see.
Travel and live as closely to the local standards and customs as possible.
Thanks for looking and see you on the road!!
