After the big trip They came, went... and did it! But where are they now? DID that big trip change their lives? What to do with all the travel experience and how to use it? How to get a job afterwards! Was the trip the best - or worst - thing you ever did?

I haven't been everywhere...
but it's on my list!

me, the motorcycle traveler

me, the motorcycle traveler

born into the heart of industry.
raised to be a worker.
trained to be an engineer.
spirited as a traveler.

looking at the horizons.
seeing the road ahead.
riding into the sunset.
feeling the rain on my face.

eating the food of foreign nations.
drinking with strangers.
thinking about the people past.
learning to say goodbye.

living by the day.
feeling the freedom of the moment.
turning left into a side road.
arriving at the end of the world.

fueling up at rusty pumps.
changing oil with greasy hands.
fixing punctures in the midday sun.
sleeping under the stars.

waiting at embassy doors.
crossing remote frontiers.
arguing with people in uniform.
checking into dirty hotels.

missing the ferry boat.
drinking in a noisy bar.
sleeping with a young woman.
leaving the next morning.

buying food in little shops.
ignoring the soldier on the corner.
being stared at by young man.
smiling at dirty children.

trying to understand the old woman.
exchanging emails with fellow travelers.
taking pictures of the bike.
diving into the waves of the sea.

climbing up hills on dusty roads.
walking through museums.
waking up in the park.
drinking coffee out of plastic cups.

hugging a newly found friend.
washing off the dust from the road.
shaving in a cracked mirror.
cutting my girlfriends hair.

getting lost in strange suburbs.
spending the night on the toilet.
paying too little for too much.
shouting at the man behind the counter.

ignoring the speed limit.
reading the tourist brochure.
eating what ever a stranger gives me.
drinking home made spirits.

talking about home, that is not home anymore.
changing the ideas of living.
returning to a place that has not changed.
understanding that I have changed.

not only for the moment
but for ever and for the better.

New to Horizons Unlimited?

New to motorcycle travelling? New to the HU site? Confused? Too many options? It's really very simple - just 4 easy steps!

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80G/S.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
