Cheap accommodation wanted

We are two motorcyclists who have ridden overland from the UK and will be arriving in Christchurch NZ in May and our plan is after we pick our bikes up from the port to head to Queenstown for the winter ski season and we are after somewhere cheap to stay. We have already bought our ski passes on the NZ early birds scheme so we can't really change our plans and go to another resort. If accommodation came free with some form of job it would be great but as we do not have work permits it may be more difficult to organize hence the early arrival.
The opportunity to meet up with other motorcyclists would be great just to get some local information and have a
Hope to meet up soon

Hey Danny and Adam

I'm pretty sure you're the Danny and Adam I met at Maartens house in Thailand. Just a thought as I was skimming through, if you're stuck, you could try couchsurfing.com. If not directly for accomodation, someone might be able to point you in the right direction with local knowledge etc.

You have to join and all that stuff, but if you want me to make enquiries for you I'd be happy to. I've already joined.

Have a cracking winter season!

Tim

Thumbs up Drop by when you are here

Feel free to send me a PM. There's usually a bed and shed here for travellers. We are about 25km out of Christchurch. At the very least I can show where the best is!

Regards

Hi Tim
How's it going mate, the last I herd of you was your insurance company decided you were no longer covered as you needed to claim but were more than happy to take money from you for your policy.
So what was India like with a compound fracture ????? not so exotic I bet.
Thanks for the tip about couchsurfing iv just looked at their website and to be honest it looks to me you can only stay if you want to sit around talking about world politics, which isn't realy my thing, but if im wrong let me know and hope your legs ok now.

Danny

Haha!

Yes, I've had a few interesting political chats. There's been a couple of fantastic people I've stayed with to. The guy in Inida pretty much saved my skin when I bost myself. I met him through the couch site. It is a fairly hippy way of travelling I guess, but it can be really good.

So how's NZ? Has the season started yet? Man I want my snowboard bad. I saw a 4x4 here (Darwin) the other day with the rego plate 'no snow'. I could have cried.

The leg is doing ok. Five months on and the swelling is almost gone, bit of a scab, and can almost run ten meters.

Ever heard of Help Exchange: free volunteer work abroad Australia New Zealand Canada Europe ???

Excellent program, I am a host in France ... free board & lodging for a few hours work a day. There are quite a few hosts in NZ, not sure how many are near ZQN but a couple I suspect!

Thumbs up Me too.

We are in Helpx too. It's a well run organisation, and almost everyone we have hosted has been a pleasure to have around. In fact one girl stayed for nearly 5 months and is now touring New Zealand on an A100 Suzuki that she helped me rebuild from parts and then learnt to ride.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
