Free Camping & Map Book Austraila
This could either go here or "Route Planning"
Although this book is in A4 size, it would be the camping bible for Australia
http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/information.php?product=CAW5SBA4
Hope this helps our visitors
Glen

thanks for that - have you used it?
It says 3500 camp sites on the front cover, but how up to date is it? Do you know when it was published?
Love the fact there are GPS locations in the book, obviously with it's size it wont be coming with me, but I can glean what I need at home and dump it in the GPS.
Price is a bit expensive, but then this is Australia and books are just not cheap full stop!
Nice find... thanks for sharing.

It's aimed more at the motorhome market than the motor bike - I'd not feel too safe putting a tent up on some of the sites suggested, as you'll be sharing with trucks along the major highways - who always seem to have their reefer motors running when I want a snooze.
There is a weblink to keep the book updated.
About 1/3 of the sites listed charge - national parks mainly.
Wildcamping with a tent is harder than with a motorhome as plenty of councils specifically state no camping except in approve areas - whereas overnight parking is easy to argue. That said, I'll now contradict myself and say that hiding your tent and bike a few metres into the bush is very easy and as long as you dont plonk down in front of someone's $million views you can camp/tent pretty much anywhere away from people.

No idea when it was published but they offer free updates for 4 years.
Last update avail is 31st March 2009
Price is OK considering what a full set of Australian maps are worth and as a bonus you get the camp sites and free updates
Waiting to see what mates want to do a bulk order with me before I order online.
I always wondered how the Grey Nomads found all those tucked away sites in great places!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
