Maybe even with possible water points included ?

Either Hemma or Westprint do good maps ...

These include gas stations, food stores .. even phone numbers for some places. Depending on the map you get.

Hemma do a 'Australian motorcycle atlas' - ring bound - sits in a tank bag with whatever map you need upwards. Not a great deal of detail on it .. but enough for the Odnadatta track.

Both of them do detailed maps for the Odnadatta track.

Free? If you belong to a motoring orgaization (cars mostly - like ADC, RAC etc) then you can get maps here from the local orgaizsation here .. they are fairly good.. worth geting. Bring your ID card for that orgaization with you.

Oodnadatta Track Rain Affected Closures
Although this inland part of the country receives around 180mm a year, sometimes all that rain comes within a couple of days, affecting dirt roads with roads becoming very boggy, slippery, under water and washed away. It can take weeks for some parts to dry out. Keep your eye on local conditions. I live in Adelaide which is the administrative city for the State, do feel free to contact me for somewhere to stay, access to a welding. machining fabrication workshop, secure bike parking and a local guide.

Been using the Hemma maps and the Desert/4wd Trail Hemma maps for more detail.

I intended to do that route about 3 weeks ago just as the unusually intense storms hit,got caught up in the flash floods and had to totally rethink my route due to roads turning into swamps and rivers..

Oodnadatta trail was completely shutdown at that point and pretty much everything else as well....the only road open ( 4wd and bikes only ) was from william Creek to Coober Pedy.

I would imagine that they have got on top of the trail damage by now though.

resting up in Alice springs until the first week of january as i put my shoulder out when i hit the deck on that same route to Coober Pedy.

If you are going into any of the Desert Parks you have to get a Desert Parks Pass.
costs about $90,00 for a car but for a bike?
I dunno??
Good news is you get ALL the maps for South Aust Desert parks from Westprint maps with it!
Would cover nearly all of South Australia!

one little point
the brand referred to in this thread is actually Hema, one 'm', not two. a small but potentially valuable detail. and they're good maps, but so are westprint.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
