Suzuki Marauder (250cc) - how much should I pay for one in Oz?

Hey guys in Australia,

Does anyone have any idea what you'd expect to pay for a 250cc Suzuki Marauder (I think it's a GZ250), about 10 years old and with roughly 50k on the clock?

I have an opportunity to buy one off my motorcycle instructor and he's said "make me an offer"... but I have no idea what to offer! It looks in pretty good condition, has the lightness and low seat height I've been looking for, and I'm doubly tempted cos the numberplate starts with "HU"!

Any indications of what the going-price might be for this particular model would be gratefully received!

Jeanie

Jeanie, I just did a quick search on bikesales.com for you - see Motorcycle Prices - Motorcycle Values - bikesales.com.au

A 10 year old year 2000 model is valued at $1800-2100 for private sale and trade-in value is $1200-1400.

I'd say $1,500 - $2,000 would be a reasonable price for you to offer BUT 50k kms is a LOT of ks for this size bike, so take that into account.

P.S. If you want someone to check it out for you and give you an honest opinion on this, or any other bike, feel free to contact me - I'm also in Melbourne.

Hey thanks, mate, that's mega-useful!

I'm going to see the bike again tomorrow morning - my riding instructor said he'd give me an hour's training on it, to see if we (ie me and the bike!) like each other.

If we do, I'll give it a closer look and ask specifically about the mileage (I'm guessing it at the moment, as I think it's been used as a learner's bike at the riding school over the last few years...).

I'll definitely holler if I need an extra pair of eyes, thanks so much for the offer!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
