Tourist visa for over a year?

Hi all,

We are planning a overland trip in Australia which may very well last over a year. At first glance, however, it seems that we (from NL) can only get a tourist visa for 12 months.

Does anyone have advice if it is possible to extend the visa or to apply again for another 12 months visa?

Would be a pity to buy a Landcruiser and a 4x4 trailer for just one year.

Thanks.

Depending on your age, you might be eligible for a work holiday visa, which is initially 12 months but often extendable for another 12. More info here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visa...rk-holiday-417

One option would be a visa run? Take a cheap flight to Singapore or Auckland to reset your visa to a new 3-month period as a Dutch citizen.

Also, under https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visa...ng/visitor-600, it looks like there is a specific visa class for extending a previous tourist visa while still in Australia!

Visitor visa for Oz

I arrived in SYD from UK in pre-pandemic Nov 2019 on a tourist visa which is 12 mth multi-visit, max 3 mths per visit, so after 2 mths I went to NZ for 2mths, then back to Oz which gave me another 3 mths. Toward the end of this I applied for a 600 visa, and asked for 12 mths (cost $370). They gave me 9 mths, which, when added to the 3 I'd just had makes 12 I guess. At the end of this, if you apply for another 600, they charge another $370 plus an extra (and unexplained) $700, Which I like to call the 'Isn't it time you went home' fee. Rather than risk $1100 and my application being rejected, I decided to go home!

from my AU family, you can reapply.. just go in dressed well, and happy and let them know, how great your trip has been, how much you LOVE AU, and desire to continue, maybe even bring pics, on phone, tablet, or printed out.. and HOPEFULLY, they MIGHT extend... The issue is AU, was not even letting their own Citizens back into AU during the pandemic... so be prepared.. but you should have a great chance.. I am planning on the same...
cheers Coco
