Selling in Turkey or Georgia?

Just need to ask this question because it keeps me busy....

Is it possible to sell a EU-registered motorcycle in Turkey or Georgia?

I only got a couple of weeks for my journey. Not enough for a round trip.
So maybe I can park the bike for an extended period or even sell it?
Maybe someone wants to take over the bike to ride to continue the ride...

Has anyone done is before?

Greetings,
Wauschi

Just off the top of my head, Turkey has a customs union treaty with the EU so might be easier in that sense, but Georgia is fairly liberal about importing vehicles (no domestic manufacturers to protect), so should also be possible. Maybe talk to https://mototraveltbilisi.com/, they could point you in the right direction.

Also check the requirements of your local authorities about de-registering the vehicle while imported - you will probably be asked to return the license plates and documents in addition to proof of legally registering it elsewhere.

It may be easier to book the Georgia-Bulgaria ro-ro ferry instead on the way back: https://www.ukrferry.com/en/schedule

I think Turkey will be complicated and expensive. Georgia is actually quite easy to import a vehicle into, and apparently they are not very fussy about registration. They actually are a major importer of vehicles that have been involved in accidents and written off by insurance from USA, so there is an active market of people fixing these up, and registering them with Georgian documents. I believe you can keep your moto for up to 1 year on temporary importation, and there may also be a way to get a 3 year temporary georgian license plate issued. So you could most likely store it there or try and sell it. Armenia I think also allows 12 months on TIP. Other than that if another foreigner is interested in buying it, then you can sell it to them with a power of attorney, or try to transfer the ownership officially in the us and not worry about trying to import to Georgia or Turkey.

RTW, you made my day.

In fact at the moment I'm not sure how I'll proceed.
Either I'll sell my bike in Georgia, or continue to the Stans.

The next thing is to find a place to park/store the bike for a couple of months in Georgia.

Thanks so far, Wauschi

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
