2009 KLR650 for sale NOW in Santiago, Chile ($1900USD)

Hello all,

I have a 2009 KLR650 that I just rode to La paz from Santiago. At the time of writing this, the bike has ~64,000 miles. I have owned the bike since it had 48,000 miles (1 year and 4 months) and it has never let me down (just finished a 4,000 mile round trip). It has Washington plates.

Recently replaced/ fixed items:
New Progressive rear shock (4000 miles at the time of writing this, I shipped it to Chile from the US) and new bearings for suspension linkage
New DID O-ring chain (4000 miles)
New rear tire (Michelin Sirac) (4000 miles, lots of tread left)
Maintenance free battery (installed in November 2018)
New rear brake caliper, pads and line (4000 miles)
New front brake pads (7000 miles)
New throttle cable

Included with the bike (if asking price is met)
Sw-motech top case (currently mounted on the side)
(1x) pelican case
Skid plate
Crash Bars
Cramp Buster
20L Cargo Enduro Tank bag
(2x) locks
Cable lock
Spare tubes
Tire patching kit and 3x tire irons
Tool tube
Tools
Spare bottom end gaskets
Spare speedometer cable
And other misc. Items

The silver top case is not for sale

Things to note:
It does burn oil (as any 2008+ KLR does) but it's only noticeable above 4000rpm. I cruise at 4000rpm (100km/h) and it's not a major issue as long as you stay on top of it.
The speedometer was not functioning for 7000 miles so the speedometer currently reads ~57,000 miles when it's actually 64,000 miles. It is currently working.
The racks and crash bars have been welded
The hand guard on the right side is held together with zip ties (bike was blown over by the wind )
It has a very minor seep on the left crankcase (I bought it with this leak and the seep has never been an issue)
Right rear integrated running light doesn't work, but left side does
Sprockets are slightly worn but good for another few thousand miles.

I was originally riding to Bogota, Colombia from Santiago but Peru has changed its requirements for entry into the country (it is no longer possible to get in with a poder alone without a notarized stamp on the poder from the Peruvian embassy in the country you received the poder from) so I am returning to Santiago, Chile. I am currently working with the original owner of the bike to be able to transfer the title directly to the new owner so you will not face the problems I am facing. This has never been a problem for other countries, only Peru.

I am being 100% honest as I don't want any surprises to sour the deal. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Overall this is a bike I have enjoyed thoroughly and I hope it brings the next owner as much joy as it has brought me!

Hi mate. Really sorry to here about your bad experience of border crossing and I hope you'll take this post as me trying to be helpful.

I crossed back and forth from Bolivia to Peru 3 times in the past 4 months. 2 different bikes, one on Colombian plates with Colombian poder and one with Colombian plates and a Chilean poder. I never had any trouble other than when I tried to cross a seperate time with a *ahem* self generated Poder. But even that time they did actually let me through with the agreement I sort it asap!

I have heard that going direct from Chile to Peru is a more hazardous affair. But at the 2 different Bolivian / Peruvian borders I went to they were fine. I made copies of my poder for them and they were quite content with it.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
