WTB (or rent): Northern India August - October

Hello,

I'm looking to buy (and then sell) or rent a bike for the month of September to do a trip through Northern India and Nepal. Looking for a KTM 390 Duke/Adv or similar.

I'm coming from California. Flights booked. Trips prepped. Just need to find a bike.

Cheers,
Lew

I can't help with where to rent but buying takes more effort as foreigners can't register in their name, it needs to be done by an Indian so renting is easier.
If you struggle to find a KTM or similar don't be put off of a smaller bike, I did 6,000 miles in the mountains of Pakistan, Nepal and India earlier this year on a 150cc without a problem and with a passenger most of the time.

Thanks for the advice!

I understand a bit the rules there...thought maybe I could just get passed off a bike from another traveler...one that was already registered to a local.

Renting is less appealing to me because of the length of time and I've had bad luck renting in the past. I often don't find the machines to be well taken care of. But still considering as a last resort.

I rented a Bajaj Pulsar 180 the last time I was in India. It's a fine bike and gets the job done but even at sea level it was struggling a bit. Thinking for the mountains it wouldn't hurt to have a little extra :-).

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
