f650 replacement bars and grips

I have an '03 Dakar, and the end of the left hand on the bar has bent and broken off. Now the wire on the heated grip on that side has also broken, and the rubber on the grips, after 55K miles is badly worn

So I'm thinking about new bars, I'll definitely want heated grips, and of course hand guards - I have one BMW one left.

DOes anyone have recommendations for a good aftermarket combination? I know that BMW heated grips mean you have to have BMW bars, but what about other aftermarket grips? The wiring is fine up to where it goes into the switch assemblies, so I want to keep that in place and attach the new grips at that point.

Renthal seem popular for the bars? any thoughts? I'm happy with the height, don't want to mess about with risers, just would really like to plug the new bars straight into the stock clamps.

Ideas much appreciated.

Touratech recently listed a aftermarket bar compatible with BMW heated grips. I think they are Magna bars.

To give credit to where its due, I got this from Greg McKenzie's webpage at
http://www.unbeatentrack.com/

Try Dual-Star "Serious Trail and Motorcycle Adventure Outfitters" at http://www.dual-star.com/

They have a heated grip kit that says...
Mylar tape-style dual stage heating element (4" x 2 3/4") wraps around and adheres permanently to the handlebar beneath handgrips to provide toasty comfort at high or low temperature settings. Extra long 32" insulated wires are then routed along existing cables/looms. These tricky little items allow you to use the handgrip of your choice! 12-volt system draws only 36 watts.

In theory, you can then apply with any bar/grip combo available. I wonder how well they fit under a grip - how easy it is to install since the grips tend to slide on tight as it is without the mylar tape. Perhaps you have to get certain grips, but maybe Dual-Star can explain better.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
