F800GS stalling/cutting out...help
hi,
I realise this question has been asked before, but am searching for an answer asap as am currently in Buenos Aires meant to be heading south tomorrow.
My bike the BMW F800GS has decided to stall/cut out as if its out of fuel (which it isn't).
it only seems to have happen since arriving in south america and the heat, it tends to happen at lower speeds and is ok(ish) at high revs, but around town always cutting out.
Usually if i leave it for 5-10 seconds and start it with some throttle, but soon after cuts out.
Any suggestions and solutions would be appreciated.
cheers
joe
if any

googling 'f800gs stalling' brings up a pile of threads on AdvRider and elsewhere.
Could be fuel pump or even side stand switch.

thanks tim, will try the side stand first, moving onto the fuel pump if the first doesn't work

Clogged fuel injectors are the other common cause and some have had success by added techron or seafoam fuel additives to their bikes.

Vapor-lock?
Hey mate!
Good to see you're there! Unlucky you're havin troubles! If you installed fuel filters...are they getting hot and vapor-locking? Solve by adding insulation around them to shield from engine etc.
Otherwise see if when you put it on prime if it runs...if so perhaps your vacuum line is blocked/not working.
Good luck!

Prime? I had two of these, troublesome little buggers, nice to ride though. Sounds like the symptoms of a failing fuel pump but I thought the F800gs was pretty sound in that department. At the risk of sounding like I'm stating the obvious, I'd check all the fuel lines, etc for any damage and check sensors for corrosion or blockages. I'd check the plugs too and the connectors, wires, etc. I'd also think about air filter in case that was blocked. It might not just be fuel starvation, it could be anything to do with combustion.
It just occurred. I've not had one of these for a while and can't remember but on my G650 there is a way to reset the computer by working the throttle before turning the key. Maybe there is a way to reset the computer on the 800? Definitely worth a try. Maybe someone knows how to do this or even if it can be done.
Good luck.

Toyota Corolla fuel pump for F800GS ?
I have recently taken receipt of my F800GS after we travelled home separately from a troublsome trip to Morocco. It was the same old story about the fuel pump Cutting out every 5s for 10s then kicking in again at the end of long hard days, basicaly all of the same symptomes you frequently see on this forum.
The day i got it back i did the Bakermans Hog Roast event on it and in the cool English climate had no issues at all, however i am currently looking at swapping bikes with someone and want to ensure that its in good order so want to change the fuel pump first.
I was told that it needs a Toyota Corolla pump from a certain period like 90-94.
can anyone shed any light on this for me please.
Extra brownie points if you can tell me a good place to get one (new) at a good price.
Gold star and a reach around for anyone who can give me the part number.
P.S.Don't be put off of helping by the reach around its up to you weather you cash it in or not !

BMW ST800 Cutting Out Solved!
Dear Friends,
My ST800 always cut out after a long blast on a motorway.
This afternoon I poured half a bottle of Red-Ex in the tank and went for a long ride with a long fast ride on the M11.
After coming off the motorway the bike didn't cut out no matter how much I tried by riding extremely slowly and speeding up, slowing down, speeding up.
It even runs sweeter after the dose of Red-Ex.
Regards,
DaveTee
