I got one (80gs)
Got myself a mono- 80gs with 1000cc pots, twin plug conversion and uprated coils but the general condition of the bike is pretty rough, the electrics are well shoddy.
In interests or reliability is the common way to go to swap loom for new one (if are they available)or is there a specialist electrical supplier that I need to know about.
Also, anyone recommend a BMW mechanic in Midlands UK are (BMW dealers out of question for such a project)as I would like an experienced appraisal of bike.
Shock also tatered but am thinking I will wait until other works done and luggage sorted before deciding on shock/spring rate.
I am scanning this brilliant source of info daily but as a new comer is there a short cut so source basics rather than post all the same questions all over again.
Got to thank Grant-Susan, Chris Scott and all the other people that put so much work into this whole deal. Genuine thanks guys.

Alan,
There is a guy named Rick Jones in the U.S. (his ad is in the HU e-zine). His compnay is called Motorrad Elektrik and the web site is www.motoelekt.com He has lots of upgraded parts (better than stock) for boxers. He has an excellent reputation. You might get some of your replacement parts from him.

Alan, we're happy to help, thanks for the nice comments. (CS's department is the Sahara Forum only.)
THE big shortcut is the search feature - it works well.
For parts Motobins are great for original equipment in the UK. For excellent aftermarket electric bits definitely see Rick Jones - and please make sure you tell him where you heard about him. He has upgraded components for all the shoddy original bits.
For the wiring, (having hand-wired hundreds of bikes myself) - buy a new harness - they are surprisingly cheap, and will save money in the end, not to mention a few handfuls of hair. Thanksfully everything for your bike is still very much available.
Check out the HU Souk while you're in a good mood!! menu item on the left...

Hi
You could try Leicester based Phil Hawksley at http://www.boxerman.co.uk/.
I haven't used him myself, but if you do please let me know how you get on.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
