Leaky Bing Carb Fix .. Replacing the Seat
Leaky Bing carb fix on R80 G/S ... tried everything else without success.
it was time to replace the seat. removing seat by carefully following below method requires no heat.
use a 24 - 5/16 tap then screw same pitch bolt into now threaded brass seat.
use a nut with ID larger than seat for a spacer. then simply turn nut to pull out.
easy does it when making initial pull. taking apart several times to inspect pull is coming out straight.
use a brass drift to gently tap new seat in
correct float height setting. float level with edge of bowl.

Help!
Hi there,
I see that you removed your float needle seating and it was a brilliantly helpful article. However, try as I might,I have been unable to find anyone that can supply me with a new seating. Any suggestions please? Maybe because I'm in the UK that's the handicap!!
Many thanks-Adrian

Bing carburetor USA has em... send them an email or call. hopefully they can ship. BMW dealers are suppose to have access too. but got mine direct from Bing. found out later they are the most expensive option. but they have got actual stock.

Replacing Needle Seat
IMPORTANT.. for those of you with early Bing 64 carbs, (equipped with solid steel-tipped 4 sided float needles), the diameter of the needle seat is different from the later units. You must use a 7mm tap and bolt rather than the 8mm specified above for the later carbs. And NO, a 5/16" tap for these earlier carbs will absolute be too large and result in destroying the seat opening.
Additionally, rather than just screwing the bolt into the seat to pull it out (which forces the seat to turn in its cavity during extraction, possibly abrading the cavity), I recommend using a secondary nut on the bolt to prevent seat rotation.
I have documented this approach with photos on my own blog:
