maintenance for 1200GS $$$$$????

I ride a VFR and the owner of my salary (my wife) authorized me to trade it for a 1200GS as a X-mas present (I'll have to pay for it).But I'm concerned about the maintenance$
Can you guys tell me how much should I spect to spend on the services (600, 6000, and 12000 miles)
Thanks in advance to all of you, noble and knowledgeable people.

The cost of standard 6000 and 12000 mile services? why not ask the dealer from where you intend to buy?

Bill is right, ask the dealer.

I have ridden 22,000 miles on mine in 5 months and the maintenance performed in at www.oneworld-twowheels.com, click on tech stuff then maintenance.

That said, theres a few things you ought to know about the bike. The final drives can be a pain. Chack out advrider.com for a load of info on what to expect. I have had mine replaced 4 times. Check that the back wheel has no slack when moving it side to side and that when on the centre stand running in 2nd or 3rd the back brake caliper runs true, not mooving from side to side.... those are the signs of trouble.

That said, the bike is LEGENDARY.

Enjoy Christmas.

I've found the maintenance bills on par with my Honda's FWIW. But the GS is much easier to work on so the things I used to bring my Honda's in for I do on my own.

Not sure how these cost with rest of world, UK prices where I work are:

600m: FOC by supplying Dealer.

6,000m: £185.00
12,000m: £208.00
18,000m: £185.00
24,000m £208.00 for the 12k + extra for flushing & refilling the entire brake system. ABS takes longer & costs more.

Above prices are inclusive of 17.5% VAT.

I've found that service costs vary widely between dealers. As does the standard.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
