RON 92 in R 1200 GSA?

Hi All

I have just bought a 2013 R1200 GSA in Korea and am finding it very difficult to get RON 95 fuel, only RON 92 seems to be available.

Can anyone advise of the issues - short and long term - with using RON 92 fuel

Any advice or experience will be appreciated

Cheers Darren

A BMW dealer can programme the bike to take low octane fuel..
Running 92 may cause pinking which over a long period of time can do damage.

Can you not buy an octane booster ??

Hi Ted

I'll check with the dealer to see if she has been re-tuned. As for octane booster I would think thqt should be available, just got to make sure I know how to read Korean!! Is there any issues with octane boosters used long term?

Thanks for your help Ted

Cheers Darren

Not that I know of mate... Surely its just what goes in better fuel anyway.

Regarding the dealer. They need to have a MOSS diagnostics/programming system. It won't have been programmed from the factory with the low octane map. Its something I could retrofit to the bike. I've not done it, I've just seen the option in the programming lists when I've been doing other things.

All main dealers should have one if they sell or work with anything older than 2008.

Hi Ted

Apologies for the slow thank you for your advice. I haven't had any luck finding octane booster and even less luck taking to the dealer. .. language barrier! ! Anyway the bike has been running very well on 92 ... Not getting hot or any other noticeable effects.

Cheers Darren
