Unusual problem with Valeo starter
Hello,
I am just having problems with my starter (R 100 GS, built in 1991). It is not the usual magnet-thing, but the plastic cover which holds the carbon brushes in place fell into many small peaces. Unglueable (I think).
Does anyone know where to get a starter in Dubai/Sharjah (best would be 2nd Hand)? Or does anyone know which of those cars which use the Valeo D6RA have been imported into the UAE (so that I can check the scrapeyards)?
Or maybe anyone has an idea for a technical solution?
Sorry for double posting, but if there is no solution here and I do not order a new part from Germany, I'll have to wait until after Christmas or even New Year to even order the parts (even without shipping time).
Regards
Lars

Hi Lars
Information from 2 guys over on UKGSER :
The peugot 200 and 300 series cars particularly the Peugeot 305 also many Citroen and Renaults use the same starter motor - D6RA - the mounting plate is different, but just unbolts, and replace with the GS mount, a 5 minute job.
Also you might contact Carsten Tiedemann at www.auto-elektrik.de who could help you by sending some parts to you if you can't find them locally .
Good luck , ride safe

Thanks for posting it on ukgser. The number of answers within that short period of time is impressing!
I knew that with with the french cars, I just doubt if there were imported here. Haven't seen them here (but did not look for them either).
I will try the scrapeyards tomorrow.
Just as an update: Got one in Sharjah. Not every used car parts shop has one, but a couple of have. I bought one of Chiba (between 2nd and 3rd Industrial Square). They charged 300 Dirhams (down from 400)
Thanks again!
Lars

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
