The question is, are the extras worth several hundred dollars more?

Please elaborate on the advantages/features of the Zumo over and above the humble Nuvi, accepting that the water resistance aspect is covered in the OP.

With respect.. if you don't know, then it's not going any further.. I'm not about to the list of advantages of a Zumo over a Nuvi.
Suffice to say.. I have a choice of both, and the Nuvi doesn't come close for MY usage.. do some searching yourself..

I did - I asked you for the benefit of your experience of both - I only own the lowly Nuvi (205W actually) and it has done the trick for me over a number of years.
I even treated it to a water resistant handle bar holder recently, for it's birthday - effectively does the same job as shown in the OP including supporting the Nuvi and protecting the charging cable from the weather - cost a fiver or thereabouts on ebay.

I bought one of those too - cheap but when it came to it, felt clunkier than my Ziplok with a hole on the back. Pulls off quick and slim in the pocket when away from the bike.
I think a Zumo might record a ride, av speeds and so on and bluetooth it seamlessly to all your mates, but if I am serious about logging a track properly (on moto, on foot or in kayak) I use a handheld 60CSX (also in ziplok if needed). Like Tony, I never understood how they got away with charging so much for a Zumo. Would sooner get a Montana or and do away with the 60.
For plain old road nav on a moto, still think you can't beat a Nuvi on special at Halfords + a bag.

For a few years I was pulling a poly bag over the top of my Nuvi during the occasional drop of rain; a ziplok is a high-class-2nd-generation bodge IMO.
I mainly bought the ebay thingie for the bracket to support the Nuvi = an all in one solution to the poly bag bodge and holding it on the bars.
I guess you have some form of more robust bracket, possibly bolted through the windscreen.

Probably the case - I just thought it would be good to hear from someone who uses both.
For tracking, I have used a smart phone app, and my use of the Nuvi is decreasing as I experiment with various apps.
For the bodger theme.

There's always a bunch of them for sale on ebay, for peanuts as folks upgrade or dispose of the unwanted Chrimbo gifts received from great-aunts.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
