Bargain of the century, gore jacket
I'm sure a fair few of you will be clued up to the advantages of buying army surplus waterproof for green laning and the like but the old DPM camo stuff was pretty bulky and the jacket featured a wired hood so was completely useless on a extended bike trip
well good news, There has been a change in requirements for camo type (from DPM to MTP) and a change in supplier for manufacturer and there is now such a thing as a
Lightweight goretex overjacket MTP which is not to be confused with the
Standard goretex MTP jacket (which still has a hood but this one folds up into the collar and is pretty good also)
the lightweight jacket folds up smaller and actually fits into a 1litre drybag which is smaller than my old jackets waterproof liner, It uses a single skin rip stop gore fabric, has velcro closures around the cuffs, comfy fleece lined collar, drawstring hem and waterproof zippers including vents on the armpits which for me is the real sweetener
price for a new one seems to be about £50 on ebay which is an absolute bargain in my eyes
only draw back is they only come in one colour combo ;-)
I use mine green laning, as a windstopper top layer to vented gear and as a shell to put on over my leather jacket depending on where and when I'm riding. If I left for Mongolia tomorrow, this time I'd leave my waterproof liner at home and take this one to wear over the top of my jacket when needed
