Looking for a self supporting tent
I'm looking for a self supporting tent that sets up in minutes and packs in a small stuff sack. Are there any tents available that requires no poles or single pole?

I think there might be a few minimalist tents, though without any poles, I know none.
On the other hand, you might wanna look at bivouacs for a sleeping bag. They are just larger than a normal bag and allow some headroom. MEC has them.

have a look in the khyam(kyam/kiham?) website. they make a variety of self erecting tents, but quite expensive i think. you just pull it out of the bag and let go, up it pops!
i have seen another make(cant remember what make, unhelpful sorry) that was a 2man dome and it had a single, spiral fibreglass pole that went round the tent and held it up to the right shape. to fold it back up you held opposite corners and twisted, and it went into a round flat bag about 18"(40cm) across.
so there are different types about but i cant comment on use, value, suitability etc.a tent is the sort of thing you have to choose for yourself!!

I saw a review (possible in a recent issue of BMW MOA) for a tent that used air to hold itself up. Unfortunatley I can't remember the maker. You can use compressed gas cannisters or blow it up yourself I think. Maybe someone else has heard of it.

There are a couple out there that only use one pole. Mountain Hardware and Dana designs both make one. They are a tipi type tent. The positives are they are light easy to set up, and have lots of room. The down side is the price. The link below is a review from backpacker magazine for 4 of these type tents. Hope this helps.

Can recommend Khyam tents. I can erect my 6 sided 3 person Khyam alone in 5 minutes. The inner tent is already connected to the outer, open it out on the ground, hold the central hub & lock each arm in to place & thats it. Pegging out takes another couple of minutes.
