If you do go for a tent that uses pegs, and if your tent comes with the simple thin metal rod ones, don't forget to buy some pegs that work well in semi loose ground. Also, pegs are easily lost, and if they come in a neutral color, consider painting them in neon orange or some other bright color.

For those who might be interested:

Tschibo has a pretty nice tent on sale right now, for 40€. It may not be the tent for RTWs but for a short trip it might be just what one is looking for:

It's big enough for two people and has a very large vestibule area (1.80m x 1.80m), packed size is 64x16x16cm and weight is 5.4kg. Sure it's not like the real pro-tents but hey, it's only 40€ hence for travellers on a budget it's just what one might be looking for.

Cheap and cheerful

After camping in a B&Q £30 tent for the last 4 years I bought this one recently £44. The fist made it through a number of wet and windy Scotland, Ireland and Wales trips and the new one has also been tested and I found it perfect for our needs.

Ticks in all the boxes for the "Choose a tent checklist" and well....It works.

In the camping world I don't agree that price necessarily reflects significantly improved usefullness, practicalness, durability...have you seen how flimsy those £300 tents are.

No matter what tent you buy; if your fly sheet touches your inner lining you will wake up damp ;-)

Ive got a Terra Nova Quasar tent. 400 quid but worth every penny in my humble opinion
Ok, i use it mostly for camping in Snowdonia in winter but it should be ok in hot weather to with 2 entrances and you can open the doors just to leave net doors up. Its handy it has 2 porches to because if your stuck in rain and the likes you want a porch to brew up a cuppa
Ive had North Face tents and the likes but i think Vango tents are better for rainy weather and they seem stronger.
I dont know where your from but try here, they have stores all over Britain and they are always helpful. If you go to Betws Y Coed in North Wales they also have a store called Rock bottom that sells off stuff from Cotswolds thats last seasons or end of line so plenty of good bargains to be had.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
