Darien Gap - how to cross on motorcycle

Since the Stahlratte no longer sails does anyone have ideas on crossing with motorcycle. I understand given current geo political issues the area has become even more sketchy. I am hoping to buy bike in USA then ride down through Mexico . Any recent info as to flying or other boat options will be greatly appreciated. 56 year old Aussie with a few trips under my belt. I am also considering taking a desert X down to Patagonia. I have unlimited time...pretty deep pockets. Am I crazy? I shipped my last one to UK and took it to Iceland and all over. Sadly flogged first night in Italy after getting off ferry. The brain says take a Tenere like last trip in USA/Mexixo/Canada...but the Italian machine is an utter joy to ride and has factory heated grips!!!

Easy these days with the Overland Embassy they take care of everything. Did it this year with two bikes. Takes you 3 days.

Overland embassy.
We dropped bikes off on a Monday, flew into Bogota on Tuesday and picked up bikes on Wednesday.
My advice would be to pay for the extra service in Bogota if you are in a hurry - it took 2 fixers all day to get our bikes out, although it was around Xmas.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
