Hyperpro rear shock blown

Hi everybody,
As the title says Caf's rear shock has blown (the day we are back on the road after my Ohlins was fixed!).
Does anybody know a shop that would be able to fix it? We cross into Nicaragua today heading north, NYC being the finish.

Cheers
Pete (& Caf)

ouch- that's a bit of back luck Caf (too many asados? !!!)
(best advert though for getting Wilbers )
Closest mechanics to you which I can find is Moto Punto but I do not know if they can fix this.
Maybe a quick phone call or email?

Was that the Ohlins that failed again? Send me a PM, I live in Guatemala city and there is a Ohlins trained person here. I do not know him personally but know people that do. Can you limp your way here?

Cheers guys,
Glad to see you're still manning Base Camp Bert
No Rich it's a Dutch Hyperpro not an Ohlins, Hyperpro are telling me the seals and tools are unique to them! The bike is rideable on good roads, but don't know the conditions from here on? We're thinking of either;
1. Advertising for a secondhand shock (OE) on here and ADV etc and getting it shipped to say Mexico or
2. Stopping somewhere for a few weeks over Christmas (again Mexico) and shipping the shock to EPM for a re-build.

Anybody know if shipping between USA-Mexico is straightforward/good idea?

Cheers
Pete

Pete ... have you contacted Hyperpro? If the shock is new it might still be under warranty.

Yes Walter, Bas sent me an email saying he was looking for someone to ship the parts to so I'm still waiting to see the outcome.
EPM (US distributors) say if I ship to them NJ they will turn it around asahp.

So after sales are looking top from Hyperpro but not too happy about the failure in the first place (it's had an easy life) 16000km, that's 4000km longer than my Ohlins lasted mind you!!!

If you can't have them shipped to anywhere else before Guatemala, you are welcome to send it to my PO Box in Florida, the parts will be here in Guatemala a couple of days later. All you need to do is pay for the shipping and inport costs. Just need to make sure they include an invoice in the box for customs to clear. Let me know so I can PM the address in Miami.

Big thumbs up
The rear shock was shipped to Klaus at EPM Performance in NJ over the Christmas holiday! The work was carried out (under warranty) and shipped back to us in Mexico within 3 days and that included Christmas day.

Also a friend had her standard F650GS rear shock blow the day she arrived here for the holidays, Klaus built her a new Hyperpro (in the same time frame) and shipped it with mine.
What a pleasure, someone who does what he says he's going to do, no fuss, no moaning, just good old fashioned customer service.

Pete

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
