Toyota garage/mechanic in Mexico (best in Baja California)

Hi guys!

We need to fix some minor issues in our 80 series 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser (4 o-rings in engine peripherals, powersteering pump rebuilt, thermostat and radiator change) somewhere in Mexico, preferably in Baja California.

Do you know any garages/mechanics you could recommend?

Cheers,
Bartek & Yusti

If you go to the Toyota Mexico website (www. toyota.com.mx/distribuidores ) and look for Distribuidores you will find listings for their dealers and garages who may be of help.
In Baja California they appear to only have 2 near the USA border and only one in Baja Sur
Good luck.

You will see plenty of older Japanese Toyota's and other Japanese cars in Tijuana and Mexicali. Lots of mechanics shops in BOTH cities. The hard part is finding the very best guy to work on your LC. Take your time and ask around, seek out the BEST shop.

If you can't find anyone good ... I would go back to L.A. where there are many many independent shops who surly can fix all problems Toyota. Funnily enough, about 90% of the mechanics in L.A. ... will be Mexicans!
In L.A. you can even find shops that specialize in Land Cruisers and four wheel drives. Expensive, but the best.

But you will pay less then half for labor in Mexico, but about 30% to 50% more for parts.

I'd recommend buying parts in California off EBay or through a junk yard network. Mexico has good Junk yards too ... but I'd bet Land Cruisers are rare there. But the Mechanics are VERY GOOD ... and can fix anything!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
