Acerbis 5 Litre Auxiliary Tanks, cheap!

Looks neat for a Off road type bike, may have to figure out a new way of mounting your Headlamp though!

I seem to remember those being around £50 (€70) each in the UK (if you could get them) so it seems like a good price.
They always looked like a neat, if somewhat expensive, alternative to 5L jerrycans at £10 each.

acerbis "front" tank on Zega cases?

looking for a cheap yet efficient way to increase the range of my 12gs for a transafrica trip, i was wondering if anyone has experienced mounting the acerbis front tank Acerbis Front Auxiliary Fuel Tanks [Acerbis Auxiliary Fuel Tanks] - $69.95 : Just Gas Tanks
on TT zega cases? looks like they might fit snug, two per panier (front and back) and give 20l (300+kms) of extra fuel...

another think i am looking at is this:
Kolpin Universal Fuel Pack Kolpin Universal Fuel Pack [917-8554] - $79.99 : Just Gas Tanks
could maybe be monted lenghtwise in the back with the passenger seat removed (that also is 20l).?

though it seems we'll need to have a guide/escort for southern algeria/niger (extra fuel can be put is his truck i guess...) we plan to go around lake chad and there will be on our own...

your input much appreciated!

I always thought that the idea with the Acerbis tank was that you mounted it on the front forks and connected it through the vent hole on the existing fuel cap. The fuel would then syphon into your normal tank keeping it topped up without having to stop and tip it in and that it was this function that made it worth the sticker price.

If you just want to carry a few extra litres of fuel wouldn't normal plastic cans at about £5.00 each be a cheaper bet? Even 5L metal jerrycans are only about £10.00 each.

point well taken.

just thinking about having things neat, trying to avoid having the bikes look like xmas trees!!!

i do like the design of the 19L long flat fuel cell though... could be used for water instead...
darn... why cant humans drink fuel.... or biles run on water....!!

best

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
