Earplugs with earphones
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has ever tried a long distance with earphones which are shaped almost like a soft earplug. They even give the same 'sucking' feeling (for lack of better word :-)), when you insert them. So I'm sure they are pretty airtight. I (6') ride a stock '02 650GS with a BMW System 4 helmet, so the wind can become a little anoying. With normal earplugs riding is a pleasure, but I was hoping I could add some music to it for the long road! However, I dont want to muck up my hearing finding out that they dont work!

Hi Rudi,
Just because the ear pieces are air tight, doesn't mean that they're protecting your hearing. In fact, if you can hear the music, then presumably it's louder than any wind noise and is probably doing even more damage (unless my logic is completely wrong!)

I think you may be right.
Although I never have to turn the volume up beyond what is comfortable at indoor levels (so it is pretty insulating to the outside noise), after 3-4 hours my ears were a little numb. I think they are perfect for riding at 40-50 mph, but over 50 or so the wind does start picking up.
So are there any alternatives, or does everyone use earplugs when going on the road?
Thanks!

Thought you might like to read this forum from over the last year - it covers all these options - only leaves the question of Music being piped in....

You might want to consider that to get decent plugs with one small speaker in can cost about £150 GBP from Elicin. To get two and link it up.... who knows - is it really worth it... relax and enoy the scenery instead...
Ciao.
