Touratech rapid trap

so i got me a fancy schmancy zega pro setup with rapid trap top case. installed the locks today and found that the rapid trap release lever doesn't really lock the concraption. in fact all you have to is pull it gently away from the case and it unlocks lickity split.

any ideas?

Send it all back under distance selling regulations then buy something which isn't overpriced and under engineered mass produced crap.

There are plenty of smaller independent outfitters who can sell you something that works for probably cheaper..

Just my opinion

sounds like you're a big TT fan.

i get it. but shipping back to germany would cost me three arms and two legs, not to mention that i'm fairly certain the merchant would not accept a return at this point.

usually these types of problems are either limited to one or a few items or are a mass problem. i'd like to find out which of the two it is.

thanks anyway

Have you told TT about your problem and if so, what was their answer ?

Sent TT an email asking the same thing as I posted here. No response as yet but it was the weekend.

If you're in Miami, why wouldn't you deal with Tourtech USA?
I think they are in Seattle, WA. :confused1:

Zega Cases - Touratech-USA

I would think warranty would be valid whether bought from Germany or USA. Why not CALL THEM UP and talk? (USA)

If you're in Nicaragua ... I'd still CALL THEM UP!
With Skype or cheap cell phone, can't be too much? Tourtech prices are off the charts ... but customer service is said to be quite good.

Getting a new case sent down to you ... or your broken case sent back ... presents more complex problems if you're in Nica.
But who knows, maybe you just need a new latch mechanism? Or ... ?

Good luck!

Hey mollydog. I'm mostly in Miami. Bought the cases from Germany because even after paying shipping to the US I saved over 30% off TT USA's prices.

Since you already own the product ... I believe the warranty is valid no matter where you purchased it. Send it back to Seattle. Done.
I believe it's all one company and they communicate with Germany. Would help if you have receipt or warranty card.

If the case is 2 years or more old and you're just now complaining about the faulty latch ... well that's a bit different. But if it's NEW and was broken when you got it ... then I see no issue with exchanging it for a new Tourtech Rapid Trap Box.

(still that's amazing there is a 30% boost to USA customers!! )

Hope something works out!

TT USA has responded with a suggestion. I'll give it a shot later on today.

the bags are new. i received them around october last year but only installed them on the bike several weeks ago. i installed the locks just the other day.

i'll post a follow-up soon.

so, i disassembled the mechanism and re assembled it. it works now, but still not happy with the system. seems pretty flimsy. will probably try and fashion some sort of extra lock for when i have to leave it unattended.

based on TT usa's follow-up response regarding exchanging it, i'm led to believe that they will not do much since they premised looking into an exchange by asking for my order number. but i'm just guessing.

That's normal...

I fit this stuff to bikes all the time... Most of it requires a lump hammer or pry bar to fit properly. Then you often have to rebuild or adapt it to work properly.

I often replace the nasty cheese head Hex bolts for ones which don't strip off as soon as you turn them. That's the stuff which isn't held together with zipties.

There is SOOO much better stuff out there for half the price. The power of marketing eh..

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
