Universal socket wrench?

Hi, I have already tried a search on this item using the search facility but nothing came up. Has any one used the Gator grip or similar universal socket wrench? The reviews via Google are mixed. I was thinking of using one for traveling only (to keep weight down) and not as a piece of garage or shed equipment to be used on a daily or commercial basis. Any views appreciated before I shell out for yet another item to add to my extensive and ever growing collection of "looks great on paper but crap in real life" items.

Laser Tools | 2856 | Socket - Survivor

Thanks in advance

GM

Looks crap on paper too....

I can't see it do anything but round off nuts with any serious torque put through it.

I'd put it in the same category as a cheap adjustable wrench. It probably will work in an emergency but it will do damage as it goes.

I'll guess it wears itself out pretty quickly too. Looks like it's got about 50 thin square strips. Every time it grips these lock into each other. As they round their corners off it will get looser and looser.

I think there's a reason you never see them. I think they belong in the same tool boxes as those spanners you get with flat pack furniture which have 25 different sizes on them.

Agree with Ted!

Just pick out the sizes you need out of a set. No point bringing them all.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
