'94 Transalp hard luggage

Hi folks,

Having just bought my first "big bike", a '94 Transalp, I am completely new to the world of bike travel. I intend to use the bike for commuting, travels to the Scottish Highlands and one or two longer trips per year, i.e. Eastern Europe, North Africa, etc.

I was planning to equip the bike with hard luggage, but neither of the top two contenders (Touratech & Metal Mule) offer a frame for a Transalp of this vintage. Could anyone recommend a good quality alternative, or does anyone have a second-hand pannier frame available for sale (in good condition)?!

All tips gratefully received!

Cheers,

Andy

1. You could learn to weld? This guy here did a nice job:

And this is a good model to copy:

This aint bad either:

2. Find someone to make a rack for you

3. Otherwise, Happy Trails in the USA most certainly make a rack for the Transalp. I am pretty sure Givi do to. Most boxes will fit, with minimal modificatiopn onto a rack from another manufacturers: I know that Happy Trails make theirs so as to take a Givi box, for example.

This site has all you need for Transalps:

Good luck.

Besides. I'm tired of deleting your bounces!

Check out Hepco & Becker, they make a great system for all year models of the TA, but expensive. Also, as stated above, Happy Trails in the USA makes a good system that I am currently using on my '89 TA.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
