Do I need a motorcycle cover for a TRW trip?
If it's just for rain protection or for safety, should I consider getting a motorcycle cover for a RTW trip?

I always travel with a rain cover--mostly for theft deterrence, about which there are lots of previous posts. I've also taken naps on picnic benches under mine during rain showers.

I'd have to wonder, though, why the one you linked is a third the price of the others by the same manufacturer. Makes you wonder if there's a good reason.

Are any of these covers flame retardant ? I've got a cheap, thin, light weight cover that I've taken with me on trips but never felt I needed to use it. I totally get it about the "out of sight out of mind" thing and I agree with it too so would use it if I felt the need but I have concerns about stray cigarette ends etc. .Regarding my own cover I never looked into it, a friend who I did a trip with got us one each off Fleabay or somewhere, it was so cheap I think I got the first two rounds in and we were quits and I've never had it out the packet....My guess is they're probably as flammable as an 80's shell suit !

I usully use a cover while travelling for security more than any thing else.
Out of sight out of mind.

Having said that my last cover got stolen off the bike in Austria whilst at the erzberg rodeo

I love the linked page of the OP. The bit I liked is where is says “Not intended for use while traveling.” Obviously someone, at some point, has tried to ride their bike with the cover still on.

Oxford Products do a range of cheap lightweight covers. Anything lightweight isn't going to be very durable but unless you're expecting to be parked in the windiest of places every night you should be OK. I'll probably take one with me as an added layer of security since it doesn't take up much space or weight, but I certainly won't rely on it alone.

I use a 3m x3m tarp , very light but has so many more uses than just a bike cover

I parked my bike in Barcelona city centre over night with three other bikes.

I was the only one who put a cover on my bike.

I was also the only one that didn't have anything stolen off my bike.


Silly things like Sat Nav bracket, cruise control, mirror, seat covers etc. Not massivly expensive but a real pain to lose when you're on a trip.

It's a deterrant. It makes a thief look for an easier target. It's quite obvious pulling a cover off a bike and the cover stops any potential theives eye-balling something to come back for.

I used bike cover on a tour of Europe. Whilst at the Erzberg rodeo in Austria. The cover was stolen whilst the bike was in the hotel carpark.

At least the bike wast stolen I spose.
