I thought you'd get lots of replies by now!

I've only ever done this once about 20 yrs ago and then on an MV Agusta 750 so it was only ever destined to be used on sunny days.

Unfortunately I've forgotten who did it, but I do remember it was a well known bike seat company (can't be that that well known or I'd remember them!). Anyway, they didn't have any problems actually covering the seat. They got the colour wrong, but that's another matter.

As a seat it was no better or worse than some of the vinyls available. I dread to think what it would have been like though if it had been left in the rain regularly.

Rally Bike have suede or synthetic suede (alcantara ) seat covers so there must be someone doing it.

I think Jenny’s (JMo (& piglet)) Tenere has a suede cover so might be worth a PM

A quick search on 'tinternet thows up loads of companies.

I have two leather covered seats for my Basic, both for double and single seat.

The obvious problem is when it rains but that's not to bad when you are driving. Normally the seat doesn't get real wet before you park your bike in the rain.
I also have the standard vinyl-seat but I have just used it once the last 4 years. The leather-seat is much better.

Mine gets soaked a few times each year (eeehh like today), but I don't care to much. I wash it with some special soap every autumn, that's all.

HPN can do any kind of modifications to you seat and they also have rain-covers.

Thanks for your replies fellas, I will have a search about the internet, I was just thinking about the practical use of it (rain in particular) but I think its durability outweighs its spongeability. Thanks again

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
