Mechelin Sirac
I am going down through Central America soon on my KTM 620 and thinking of putting a set of Mechelin Siracs on for the trip. Anyone have any input on those or a similar tire? The trip will be 85% to 95% on paved roads with an occasional foray onto the dirt roads. I'm looking for a smooth ride on the pavement with with moderate to decent handling on the dirt roads!

Hi Paul,
I am riding my Tenere 660 on Siracs tires at the moment. Altogether Siracs are good choise but do not expect to much of handling on dirt sectiones and in loose gravel. Count that tyres need warming-up time and that its become a bit of slipery after aprox. 10.000 km. Durability if very good, my rear is now 12.000 km and on paved roads it will last surely 16-20.000 km. You can ride very safetly on hard offroad surface ang grip is correct, but always bear in mind that Siracs are infact street tyres, not basicaly offroad. For trip as yours, better bet on more enduro profile as T63, it will last much less, but offroading will bring you more fun and T63 are very good on asphalt roads. Probably you count on durability on trip such as yours, so looking that eyes Siracs seems as reasonable choise.
Regards,
AnteK, XTZ 660

Hi, just came home from a 6750km trip around Europe. Me and my girlfriend have been driving heavily laden XT600Z Ténérés with Siracs both fromt and rear.
They have very good road handling but I must agree that the handling om loose dirt and gravel is not much to speak of.
My girlfriend took a dive when trying to go through deep coarse gravel on a beach, they don´t grip the looser surfaces too well.
But, you will get good mileage and it´s a very reliable tyre, I´ll recommend it!
Regards / R
