Transalp at 4700m
Hi,
when travelling in high altitudes, consider taking a Transalp. Mine (Model 93)climbed up to 4700m without any problems, and without any special preparation. Its a great and reliable touring bike anyways.

I wouldn't count on a speedy response from Werner, his post is nearly nine years old..!
The TA is a great bike, super reliable and much underrated. Mine happily cruises at 120kph or more, two up, with full luggage.
I was also going to travel South America on my TA but health reasons mean I need 4 wheels.
Go for it, you'll have a ball.

Transalp at altitude
Has anyone fitted a carb kit for altitude issues on a Transalp?
If so, what kits do you recommend?

Ollie, I took mine up the KKH to about 5000m. Honestly, I have since had to adjust the carbs. I put in smaller main jets but I don't remember the new size offhand.
Essentially I found the bike to run perfectly until about 3000 and started to struggle after that. between 3 and 5k there was a noticeable increase in fuel consumption and decrease in power but nothing that should cause worry. Mine was a fully loaded 05 TA. About 300kg all in.
