jjones - sorry for delay - been out in the tropics of errr Essex
Answer - extremely little time as they dont break! I service them myself, religiously. I have had a coil go (my OE was swapped for a pattern coil by an Egyptian mechanic - pattern coil which failed) and I have had an alternator go (my fault - deep wading in muddy water and I didnt clean it) but otherwise nothing has gone wrong on both wagons. I am constantly amazed by the tales of Land Rover unreliability - mine are bombproof! I swapped a starter motor over as the teeth were wearing on the older wagon, and I got a friend to replace the springs on the newer beastie, but otherwise they have been 100% reliable.
I have to say their finest hour was taking a group of US friends out into the Egyptian Sahara in 2 2001 Landcruisers and 1 1998 Landcruiser, and my eldest Defender. 1 Landcruiser got through unscathed. One perpetually got stuck (driver probably, to be fair) and one had major ignition problems and had to be towed by the Landy.... smug? me?
Sorry, bit off topic Thats what you get for spending time in Essex
