Cubby Box Replaced with a Third Seat
Hello there,
Due to some very sudden changes in our holiday plans we'd like to replace our cubby box with a 3rd seat on our 110 defender.
What are peoples thoughts on this?
1. Is it feasible and easy?
2. Is it comfortable for someone (small lady approx weight - one of my legs) to travel for a week.
3. Does anyone know someone on the South coast who could do this by Thursday?
I know this may be dependant on a few things like our particular set up in the landy, but I'm at work at the moment and can't have a look until I get home tonight, so thought I'd get the question out ASAP.
Very grateful for any (quick) advice ....
thanks

Yes. I'm sure you could pick up a middle seat & bolt-in belt fittings for next to nothing on ebay. It's a standard seat position for defenders.
2. Is it comfortable for someone (small lady approx weight - one of my legs) to travel for a week.
That depends on how big your leg is! The Defender middle seat is a bit of a waste of time for adults on long journeys - it's just too crowded. Which is why many people replace it with a cubby box.

Thanks for the answers
Hi Richard,
Thanks for that. Ther is one (without seatbelt) for a tenner. Do they normally just bolt in once you have them?

Ollie,
I'm not certain, but I'd lay a smallish bet that it's a very simple job. It's likely that your 110 had the middle seat sometime in the past, so any necessary drill holes etc. might already be there. Someone on a land rover forum should be able to guide you through the job.
Ask the seller if the seat comes with all fittings, as if not these may cost you to order from Land Rover (who tend to charge through the nose for tiny metal doodahs).
Also, remember to check your insurance for this mod.

Ollie,
Yep they bolt in - the seatbelt fixings I cant remember if they come off the centre seat or double up with the 2 outer seatbelt fixings...
there used to be a cubby box that would sit on the centre seat and use the seat belt clips to hold in place - so you get to have both - but not secure ! keep an eye out in the LR magazines...
Try giving my mate Andy Lanham a call - he runs AL Services in Poole, on 01202 668666
He is an independant LR specialist - and can help you - either with bits or advice or he could do it for you im sure - though you should be able to do it, no problem with the correct bits.....
Cheers
Grif

Thanks for all the advice
Hi Gipper,
Thanks for that. We've worked out we just don't have the time before we leave for Ireland tomorrow. She's just going to have to walk!
But I wwill certainly use Andy in future. and I think we may fit a 3rd seat and have it avaiable in place of the cubby box for future dilemmas. If only you could strap people on the roof rack you wouldn't have these issues.
Again, many thanks to everyone who reads and helps on these threads, it is always much appreciated,
