HD Springs on 110 CSW

I'm going to Morocco in October and was wondering if I need HD springs?

Will the rear normal springs go on the front and can I put HD springs on the back without having to remove the self leveller unit?

Rather depends on how much weight you will be carrying? I have HD OME suspension with a 2" lift in my LR110 which works pretty well. Still get good travel. Its fairly heavily loaded with a roll cage, winch, bull bar, side bars, long range tanks, etc. If you are just going to Morrocco then you don't need much in the way of kit. My LR is set up for long distance remote travel including trans africa solo and I could get away wih a lot less kit. If you want to buy the toys then fair enough but they aren't really necassary for Morrocco.

The STD CSW springs are pretty soft, the least I`d do is put in some HD ones out of a hard top in, especially in the rear.

The std CSW`s are rated at 180lb and the HDs are 330lbs. A set of 90 rear springs are the same as HD 110 fronts, getting an old set of old 90 rears is a cheap way of making the front stiffer.

I agree, my Td5 110 SW has quite soft springs on it, and now i've fitted a winch and axle guard it's a bit wobbly on bends, think some HD's will be on the shopping list.

if you can afford it, go for OME (Old Man Emu), i've got these on my 90 and had them on past rovers, they are excellents units.

Toby... can you remember what the spring numbers were that you fitted to your 110? i had a set on my old 110 a few years back, but the rears were so hard it would lift a wheel on a roundabout!!
just heavier than standard and 2" higher would fit the bill just nicely.

Hi,

I can really recomend these air helper springs. I went accross Africa with a set of these, and the great thing is that you can adapt the suspension to exactly what you want regardeless the load you're carrying.

And, you'll get another thing to fiddle with...

Can't remember the exact spec. As far as I can remember OME have three ratings, mine are the at the heavy duty end of the range but then when I'm loaded for expeditions I'm up at my maximum weight load on the Defender. Depending on how heavily you are loaded up you might want the soft or medium springs. I do find when I'm not fully loaded that it can lift a bit. The Maxi cross axle diff lock in the rear axle does help deal with this.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
