Old Man Emu in Tanzania - help!!

Hi Hubbers & happy New Year to you all!

We've blown a rear OME shock and need to find a replacement. We're currently in Dar es Salaam and I would be very grateful if any of you could point me in the direction of a distributor in East Africa. Also, can anyone recommend a good garage in Dar?

Best wishes

Lucie

Exclamation

I've already sent this info to Julian at ELCO but just in case:

Tren Tyre Tanzania Ltd

P.O. Box 3619, Nyerere Rd

Vingunguti Area,

Dar-es-salaam Tanzania

Bennie Pelser

Tel: +255 007 22 28611541

Trentyre@cctz.com

Don't know if they do OME but they'll do Robs Magic shocks and Monroe Explorers that may be compatible.

When we came through in 2001, OME had put its own people into Nairobi, supposedly because they felt the existing garages weren't doing it right although the supposed good new team then managed to mess up installing new shocks and they had to be redone on warrenty in SA. Can't remember the exact location but they were faily easy to find. Think I just asked around at the main traveller campsite in Nairobi.

Also had shocks fitted in Nanyuki, really big garage with masses of 4x4s getting worked on but they were only had basic spec shocks at the time which is why we got them redone in Nairobi. Easy to find as Nanyuki is a small place. They were doing quite a number of conversions to double shocks for the local vehicles.

Only other option I can think off is I would assume there are suppliers in Arusha for all the safari 4x4s but don't know, only guessing.

If you have no luck- look for RSA shocks.
They are just as good, and a lot cheaper.

I know they are on the main road in Arusha, so must have an agency in Dar.

Good luck.

Epilogue...

Thanks very much chaps. I found Tren Tyre in Dar in the end (they have moved location, have new coordinates if needed) and we now have Robs Magic on the back, and the ride is a lot less exciting .

OME seem to have gone out of favour over here, lets hope the front holds out till Cape Town.

Hi Enzo, coordinates are S 06 45.547, E 039 13.959, haven't got an address for them but they're very near to the Coke bottling plant. Hang on, just put the waypoint into my T4A maps & it looks like the road is 'Mandela'. Hope that's helpful?

Great - thank you. I'm also looking for a good garage for servicing an LC that is currently stored in Dar. It'll need to be picked up by the garage, serviced and then stored - did you meet anyone who might be able to do this?

Can't think of anyone in Dar, I got the impression that most of the 4x4 servicing activity took place up in Arusha. Good luck!
