Hi CTC
I mounted my Range Rover Classic spare wheel on the bonnet, with the help of a Land Rover LWB station-wagon fitting.
I ran a heavy duty 'Dexion' shelving bar underneath to support it.
The system worked well, it was strong and I travelled from Sahara to Scotland and back, all of it off-road.
It cut down visibility a bit (ask that turkey that I ran over...) but basically it WORKED.
I also mounted two spares on a heavy duty chassis-mounted bull bar on another trip - but the top mounting broke on the washboard corrugations coming out of Djanet, and I had to do some serious nut and bolt work through the body shell to secure it again.
