Bike Rental for Colombian in UK, recommendations please

Hi, I have a Colombian friend who I met and rode with for a while in South America a few years back.He has contacted me lately regarding coming to the UK,mainly to visit the Isle of Man during May this year.
He asked me about bike rental over here. Can anyone recommend anybody and will he be able to do it on his Colombian licence ?
He will be flying into London but he hasn't mentioned where he wants to start riding from as of yet.Knowing Andres he will be quite flexible on this and what size bike he wishes to hire.
I am hoping to spend some time with him(work and new baby due anytime now, permitting) So I will be able to help him out where I can and hopefully if he needs more info on routes and places to visit and stay etc I can help him out via HU.
I am ashamed to say I have never been to the Isle of Man so I can't offer any advice there.
Andres is a great character and would help foreign bikers out in his part of the world as he did with me so any info and advice would be much appreciated.

Simon

If your friend is thinking of going to the IoM TT and taking his bike it would be a good idea to check the availability of bookings on the ferry. 2011 is the 100th anniversary of the island circuit and I am pretty sure the ferries have been booked out for months. He should be OK as a foot passenger but getting a bike over there is another matter. Check out Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Ferry Services - Ferry services to and from the Isle of Man, Heysham, Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin. I and two friends booked more than 6 months ago and couldn't get the sailings we wanted. Accommodation was booked out a year ago, apart from camping, some of which may still be available. Try www.glenloughcampsite.com which is adjacent to the circuit and is close to Douglas where racing starts and finishes.

When I checked out bike hire in the UK a few years ago the prices were horrendous and none of the companies would let me take the bike out of the country to ride to Eastern Europe and back. They may even have a problem with a bike going to the IoM which is not part of the UK or the EU. It was much cheaper for me to buy a used bike. This year I have done the same thing - I have bought a bike on UK ebay and it is waiting at a friend's place for my arrival to go to the IoM TT and then tour Ireland and Scotland.

Yeah he knows it's the anniversary but he probably dosen't realise the ferry situation.A work colleague of mine has been going every year for over 20 yrs and he books up a year in advance for accomodation.
I will let him know all this.He has only just told me he wants to hire a bike so havent had much time to look into it.
So would it be possible for him to buy and use my address fot the reg doc and insure it on his name with a Colombian Licence ?
I have just insured my bike with the cheapest of insurances as I will not be doing much mileage this year so not insured for other riders otherwise I would have lent it to him.
I will let him know all this if he hasnt checked HU already.I did mention to him about HU when I first met him and how good it was.
Thanks for the info !

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
