bike stolen in sweden....
just fyi....
just back from trip round the baltics, finland and sweden and back to germany and just wanted to let people know that times have changed in Sweden! We know Sweden or Scandinavia in general as a really safe place to travel. Unfortunately- not any longer, at least in the South.
My KTM was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Goteborg and my boyfriend´s was tampered with. Real pros as far as we could tell since they short-circuited my bike at night...
Also met a cyclist on the ferry who mentioned he´d been robbed on a campground near the Vänern Lake. They slit the tents at night (with him in it!) and stole everything- and from several other tents on the site!
Go figure- we travelled through Poland, Lithuania etc. with no problems...

Sorry to hear of your loss, Julchen. It could have been any of us. Thanks for the info, so that we can try to take precautions.
I would hesitate to blame a particular county, though. There are ratbags everywhere.

Sorry to hear your story - hope your loss will be covered by an insurance.
I work at a KTM-dealer near Gothenburg - if you let me know which kind of bike you owned, I can send a mail to other dealers to keep their eyes open for spare-parts orders (ignition locks) - or to let me know about offered parts.
Just a small chance

go figure
sorry, haven´t been able to check back lately- but thanks so much for your commiseration and offers of help!!
Amazingly, the Swedish police has FOUND my bike!!! And it is so true, one shouldn´t blame certain countries (which I didn´t mean to imply when I mentioned Poland etc.- just that we´d been warned about the eastern countries and noone considered Sweden a "danger") Anyway, as it turns out, my bike was found - still in Gothenburg, in someone´s driveway and apparently still with my license plates on !!
So, maybe the Swedes have gone a bit "crooked" but they´re still a bit awkward
Thanks again for your offers of help!
Julchen

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
